# Give your router a checkup.

Three settings worth finding in your home Wi-Fi controls.

Your router has its own security settings and updates. Use the manufacturer’s or internet provider’s instructions for your model; a web page cannot certify your network as secure.

## Try this

1. Check encryption. Use WPA3 Personal where supported, or WPA2 Personal. Avoid obsolete WEP and original WPA.
2. Set distinct, strong Wi-Fi and router-admin passwords. The admin password controls settings, not just joining the network.
3. Check firmware updates through the manufacturer or provider. Review guest-network options for visitors.

You changed the Wi-Fi password. Is the router’s default admin password necessarily changed too?

These passwords serve different purposes. If a router cannot support modern encryption after updating, ask the manufacturer or provider about replacing it.
